January Feature Emily Joy

emily-joy_jenny1Emily Joy is a spoken word poet, educator and professional interrupter. She has released two studio albums of spoken word poetry, funded a successful Kickstarter to the tune of $10,000, competed in the 2014 Individual World Poetry Slam, and travels the country performing at schools, churches, festivals, coffee shops, and wherever poetry is heard and enjoyed. Emily is also co-founder of The Flawless Project, a blog that seeks to give women space to tell their stories and encouragement for the work of justice in the world, and Communications Coordinator for Open Table Nashville, a local homeless outreach and policy advocacy organization that housed over 100 homeless friends in Nashville in 2016. Emily holds a degree in theology and lives in East Nashville with her spouse and their two cats, Lewis and Lucy.
