November Feature Ami Mattison

Ami MattisonHailed as “a spoken word force to be reckoned with” by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Ami Mattison is the recipient of the 2013 Spoken Word Award from the Fellowship of Southern Writers. Touring professionally since 2002, she has performed her original poetry and stories at universities, theaters, festivals, conferences and art venues around the US and Canada. She is the producer of three spoken word albums, including her latest album, Speaking of Love.

Author Dorothy Allison writes, “Anyone who has had the opportunity to hear…Ami Mattison knows how powerful and effective poetry can be—how words can enlarge the soul and animate the dismissed and the misunderstood. The body of work Ami has brought to life ranges from the desperate to the messianic….Always she speaks for the despised in verse that hallows grief and embodies joy. The world is larger, wider, fuller for the people she brings alive in words.”
